Frost Centre Hike- Haliburton

We went on a beautiful hike in Haliburton yesterday after church.  The Frost Centre is just off of Hwy. 35, on the shores of Lake St. Nora. The Frost Centre is a former learning centre (those of you who have gone to Wilderness Week at Campfire in the past- this is where we set out!), with quite a few hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails. The colours were beautiful, the temperature perfect and the company fantastic!

The biggest spider ever- at least 2 inches across

These ferns smelled like sweet almond- incredible!
with the wind blowing in the trees and leaves rustling
We finished off the evening with pancakes and ham and tea at Joanna's- a proper, warm comfort meal after an afternoon's hike. A beautiful way to spend the afternoon on Sunday!

O LORD, how manifold are your works!
In wisdom has thou made them all:
the earth is full of your riches.

The Lindsay Ex

This past weekend Bonnie and Chris came up to Lindsay to hang out with us at the Lindsay Exhibition (read: fall fair).

They came up on Friday night, along with Joanna, and we mowed down on pizza and apple crisp and had a jolly old time chatting and hanging out and looking at my baby pictures (embarrassing).

On Saturday morning we woke up to rain (and I mean RAIN), but decided to keep our plans anyway. We hit up the Farmer's Market, where we bought some apples, and the library book sale, where we bought some books, and then Down to Earth, where Chris bought shoes. Very productive.

After lunch at The Pantry Shelf (where we had AMAZING tourtieres and steak and mushroom pies) we met up with Joanna again and headed out to the fair.

Even though it rained pretty much the whole time, we still managed to have an awesome time. We saw cows and horses and goats and chickens... all the typical fair fair, you know? We ate beaver tails and funnel cake and cotton candy, Bon and Jo took a ride on Hang Glider (much to the chagrin of their bellies, I believe), and we watched some cattle/ dairy competitions and a Loggersports demonstration. The rain was slightly miserable, but not detrimental to our activities. We had a great time!

"Come to the Ex next year, y'all!"
So, if it sounds to you like Lindsay is awesome and you should come up here, you should. You are always welcome! Can't wait to show you around!

Halfway!

I thought I'd give you a couple pictures to update you on the "pregnant situation" (for those who are interested). I am officially halfway! There is definitely a lot of movement going on down there, especially at night. It's very exciting to feel my baby... I can't believe that in a few short months this little one will be here. I am feeling very blessed and thankful that God has kept this baby healthy so far. We are definitely not taking that for granted. Can't wait to share more when the time comes!

This Week's Update

Hey all! I don't really have anything too interesting to write about this week, but I'll give you a basic recap of the week so you are all caught up:

On Friday we went to one of James' classmate's apartments for dinner. This was so nice. We made a friend! Ha. She is from Nova Scotia and just happened to chat with James at school last week. Since neither knew anyone here, it was a friendship made in heaven! ;) Needless, to say, I believe this friendship will continue to grow. Yes! Friends!

On Sunday after church we went to a park down by the river. After chilling by the water for a bit, we went for a walk. As we were walking James noticed a girl from school setting up some slack lines. Obviously we went to say hi, and James got to try a bit of slacklining. I'm a bit nervous that he will want to keep trying, but if I'm honest, I was dying to get up there too!

The rest of the week was pretty uneventful, other than that I started my new job. At Tim Horton's. Yep. I can't lie though, the three days I worked this week I actually enjoyed quite a bit! Other than sore feet and a bit of a sore back, everything went really well. The girls I worked with are really nice (and helpful) and, all in all, it was an enjoyable experience.

That is all, folks! I'm going to leave you with a song today, because I'm feeling like sharing. This is a summer staple of James' and mine. It conjures up the smell of the woods and the sun on your face. A perfect song to listen to with the windows down on the way to camping. We could all use a bit of that feeling today, I think. Enjoy...

Lindsay Farmer's Market

Reason #1 why Lindsay is great:

We visited the Farmer's Market this morning in the pouring rain. We came away so impressed! The amount of fresh produce for a small market was incredible. We got all of the above for less than 30 bucks. They also had flowers, jams, honeys, crafts, woodcrafts, meat, and more to enjoy! And the people themselves were so friendly. We were asked multiple times if we were new to town and they hoped we would enjoy our experience here. It was awesome. I'll have to take a picture of the actual farmer's market next time we go. Or, you could come and visit and we will take you with us!

Evening Bike Ride

Here are a few pictures from the bike ride James and I went on last night. The weather was beautiful and I am glad I got to enjoy the ride... It won't be too much longer before the bike is out of the picture.

I hope you enjoy the pictures of God's beautiful creation (Lake Sturgeon) as much as we got to in person last night:

I am so glad to call this beautiful place my home. It is different from what I know and will take some getting used to, but with nature like this only a 10 minute bike ride away, I doubt it will take long!

And When It Rains...

Just in case you all thought we didn't have enough on our plate with a new home, new town, new school, and (hopefully) a new job...
